Symantec Announces Alliance with HP to
Expand Internet Business Opportunities
Cupertino, Calif. April 12, 1999-- Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ:SYMC) today
announced that it will join Hewlett-Packard Company's Covision Internet solutions program.
The program is aimed at providing businesses and corporations integrated Internet-ready
solutions through select channel partners. The alliance will provide HP's partners and
customers with Symantec's VisualCafé Enterprise Suite, a best-of-breed tool to Internet
enable applications, tools and legacy systems.
VisualCafé Enterprise Suite is the industry's premier Integrated Development
Environment (IDE) for the creation of distributed Java technology-based applications.
VisualCafé Enterprise Suite features unique technology intelligently automates many
development tasks, such as configuring applications for interoperability across different
platforms and across multiple application servers. Designed using an open approach,
VisualCafé Enterprise Suite gives users the flexibility to choose best-of-breed tools for
their tasks and to leverage existing resources and platforms. As part of the HP Covision
program, VisualCafé is now among those key technologies necessary to build and deploy
Internet and Intranet applications for electronic commerce and business information
systems.
HP Covision solutions are formed at the channel and targeted at companies ranging in
size from small businesses that are just getting connected to the Internet, to enterprises
that are building sophisticated intranets and extranets. The Covision program combines
leading Internet applications; services from certified Internet-ready resellers, systems
integrators and Internet service providers (ISPs); and HP computer technology, including
servers, desktops, printers and scanners.
