HARPAL S. GILL APPOINTED VICE PRESIDENT OF
ENGINEERING FOR READ-RITE INTERNATIONAL
MILPITAS, CA -- February 17, 1999 -- Read-Rite Corporation (NASDAQ: RDRT) has
appointed Dr. Harpal S. Gill, age 45, vice president of engineering for Read-Rite
International in Southeast Asia. He replaces Narinder Bajwa who recently returned to
corporate headquarters as vice president of manufacturing systems. In Asia, Gill will
report directly to Andy Dalisa, senior vice president, Read-Rite International.
Gill has over 25 years of experience of which 15 years were in the data storage
industry, in mechanical design, process design and development, and automation and state
of the art quality systems. Immediately prior to joining Read-Rite, he was managing
director of the JTS drive manufacturing plant in Madras, India, and was responsible for
worldwide material and procurement. Prior to that, he spent one and a half years in JTS's
San Jose plant where he was responsible all drive design for 3-1/2 and 3-inch form factor
drives. Gill's background also includes senior managerial positions with Seagate
Technology in Scotts Valley, California and Stanton Automation in London, England.
Commenting on the appointment, Andy Dalisa said, "Harpal's extensive managerial
experience and technical expertise in head gimbal assembly (HGA) and headstack assembly
(HSA) will be invaluable in assisting Read-Rite to achieve its technology goals in
Southeast Asia."
Harpal received his Ph.D. in process optimization and in-line quality control from the
University of Bradford, UK, and holds a B.Sc., in manufacturing systems and mechanical
engineering from Brunel University, UK.
