N.E.T. Promina ATM Access Certified By Deutsche
Telekom For ATM Services
FREMONT, Calif., March 29, 1999 - N.E.T. (NYSE: NWK) today announced
that the N.E.T. Promina 800 Series Multiservice Access Platform has been
certified for ATM internetworking by Deutsche Telekom AG. N.E.T. is one of the first
vendors to have customer premise equipment certified for use with Deutsche Telekom's T-NET
ATM services offered throughout Germany.
Deutsche Telekom currently offers managed network services to numerous clients using
more than 150 N.E.T. multiservice access systems throughout Germany. The certification of
the N.E.T. CellXpress adds flexibility to the decision-making process for clients
and prospects of Deutsche Telekom.
N.E.T. customers can now take advantage of the N.E.T. CellXpress ATM access module for
E3 (34Mbit/s) and E1 (2 Mbit/s) connections to T-NET ATM services offered by Deutsche
Telekom. This means that N.E.T. Promina 800 Series customers selecting the internal
CellXpress module will have the option to send voice, data and video over Deutsche Telekom
T-NET ATM services. The result is flexibility in planning for growth, changes in network
configurations and selection of applications.
Deutsche Telekom has performed extensive testing with the Promina 800 CellXpress module
at Deutsche Telekom's ROLAND lab in Wiesbaden, Germany. The ROLAND lab is at the moment
the only European testlab that performs testing against Standards defined by the ATM
Forum, ITU-T and ISO in accordance to Deutsche Telekom T-Net ATM.
"Conforming to ATM standards and adhering to them is the key issue in the ROLAND
Lab," said Dipl.-Ing. Kurt Grosse, managing director, Development Group, ROLAND Lab.
"As the certification center for Deutsche Telekom, we believe that it is in the best
interests of Deutsche Telekom customers and vendors alike."
"Deutsche Telekom has an excellent ATM network capability and we are pleased that
the N.E.T. Promina multiservice line has been certified by Deutsche Telekom for immediate
use," said Craig Forbes, director, Multiservice Access Platforms, N.E.T. "The
Promina 800 line is an excellent match with Deutsche Telekom's T-NET ATM service. Promina
network managers can leverage value-added services of Promina 800 Series networks such as
PrimeVoice voice compression, ISDN signaling and PanaVue network management by
tunneling traffic through the Deutsche Telekom T-NET ATM network for the combined benefit
of cost-effective and flexible services."
The Promina 800 Series family of Multiservice Access Platforms equipped with the
internal CellXpress ATM module performs ATM adaptation and aggregation. The Promina
systems also provide frame relay to ATM interworking based on Frame Relay Forum standards,
and support for constant bit rate and variable bit rate (CBR/VBR) traffic with Class of
Service support.. When used in conjunction with the Deutsche Telekom ATM service, traffic
from the Promina network can be transported over the ATM network and deposited on another
portion of the Promina network while retaining the advanced functionality supported by
Promina networks.
