Data General and NuView Form Technology Alliance
WESTBORO, March. 15th, 1999 Data General Corporation and NuView, Inc.
announced today the formation of a technology alliance. As part of the
agreement, Data General plans to pre-install a limited version of NuView's ClusterX
software on all its AViiON NT Cluster-in-a-Box
servers. ClusterX is the enterprise-wide cluster management solution for Microsoft
Cluster Server, which is part of Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Enterprise Edition.
``No other tool on the market today offers the capabilities that ClusterX has for
managing high-availability NT clusters," said David Flawn, vice president, NT
Marketing for Data General. ``Pre-installing a limited version of ClusterX on every
AViiON server used in our popular NT Cluster-in-a-Box solution at no extra charge further
reinforces our commitment to provide high-availability computing to our customers running
mission-critical applications."
Data General also will market and resell the full edition of ClusterX software, and
offer service and support to all ClusterX users through its Microsoft Authorized Support
Centers worldwide.
``Data General and NuView have had a long-standing relationship. We are very pleased by
this expanded alliance, as Data General is recognized as a leader in innovative
information systems technology," said Rahul Mehta, president and chief executive
officer of NuView, Inc. ``We are proud that Data General has recognized ClusterX as the
leading high-availability clustering management software to extend its expertise in the
implementation and deployment of mission-critical applications. This alliance also
benefits NuView customers by providing ClusterX users with access to Data General's
world-class service and support organization."
ClusterX
ClusterX, developed by NuView, is the first truly comprehensive
high-availability cluster management solution for MSCS. ClusterX's application and
configuration cluster management solution helps administrators reach their clustered
systems potential for high-availability computing.
ClusterX's powerful graphical views and expert knowledge built into ClusterX enable
administrators to quickly and easily install, configure, monitor, diagnose, manage,
respond to, and administer their clustered systems. ClusterX simplifies the
management of clustered mission-critical applications such as SAP R/3, Microsoft Internet
Information Server (IIS), Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle7 Enterprise
Server, among others.
Cluster-in-a-Box packaging
Data General's popular AViiON NT Cluster-in-a-Box solution consists of two AViiON
servers (up to 16 processors) running Microsoft Cluster Server, a CLARiiON RAID Fibre
Channel storage system, and the company's NTerprise Manager server management software,
including NTAlertSM ``call home" support tool in a single rackmounted
system.
``Data General was the first and is still the only company to offer this innovative
pre-assembled, pre-loaded, and pre-tested package for the NT market. The benefits for the
customer are quite clear: minimized implementation risk with quick, trouble-free
deployment of their applications, and 7x24 protection, leading to faster return on their
investment," said Mr. Flawn.
