Compaq Slashes Prices on

Desktop, Notebook PCs




HOUSTON, April 19, 1999 - Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced price reductions on its Armada notebooks and Deskpro desktop PCs. Armada 1700, 3500 and 7400 notebook models were reduced up to 13 percent. Selected
models of Compaq's Deskpro EP and EN Series were reduced up to 12 percent.

"Today's pricing strategy underscores our commitment to offer commercial customers a broad range of award-winning mobile and desktop solutions with uncompromising quality and value," said Ed Ellett, Vice President of North America Marketing for PC Products, at Compaq.

Prices on the Armada 1700 Series now begin at $2,199(1) for a model with a Mobile Pentium II processor at 266 MHz, a 13.3-inch TFT (thin film transistor) screen and Microsoft Windows 95. Deskpro prices start as low as $1109 for an Deskpro EP Series model with an Intel Celeron processor at 400 MHz, 32 MB RAM, a 4.3 GB hard drive, Microsoft Windows 95 and an S700 17-inch monitor. Prices are based on estimated U.S. selling prices. Reseller
prices may vary.
